Echocardiogram

Instructions for the Test

No special preparations are required for this test. You can take your medications as usual. You may want to wear clothing that can be removed from the waist up. Plan at being at our office for about one hour.

What is an Echocardiogram?

It is a test that uses ultrasound to make images of your heart. The test gives your physician information about your heart, including size, pumping efficiency, and condition of heart valves.

How is the Test Done?

You will be asked to change into a gown. The test is done with you lying on your left side. The technologist may ask you to change positions or breathing patterns. A transducer (microphone device) is moved over your chest. The test is safe and painless.

Test Results

The physician will review the images taken and give you the results at a later appointment or send the report to your physician.
